Air Liquide completes the expansion of its gas production facility in Kumamoto

  • Press Release

Air Liquide has completed the installation of two new air separation plants at the Kumamoto Gas Center in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, with the opening ceremony held on March 27th. Since its establishment in 2001, the Kumamoto Gas Center has continued to expand its operations to align with the growth of the semiconductor industry in Semicon Techno Park, providing industrial gases and services to its customers.

The newly constructed plants are state-of-the-art ultra-high purity air separation units using Air Liquide's proprietary technology, equipped with an innovative purity monitoring system, aimed at achieving an unprecedented level of precision. Additionally, the new plant also has the capability of liquid production to facilitate the delivery of liquid oxygen and nitrogen beyond the basin in Kuamamoto and Kyushu.

With this project completed, the center's total manufacturing capacity increased by more than five times for the future growth of Semicon Techno Park, enhancing energy efficiency by 20%, and aligning with the Air Liquide Group's strategic plan, ADVANCE, which has carbon neutrality as one of its pillars. This development is estimated to avoid approximately 11,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually compared to previous levels.

The opening ceremony welcomes reprsentatives from Kumamoto Prefecture, Koshi City, and Kikuyo Town.

Ilyong Park, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air Liquide Japan, stated: “We are pleased that Air Liquide's cutting-edge technology continues to make deep contributions to the development of the semiconductor industry in Japan and Kumamoto Prefecture. This investment aligns with Air Liquide's ADVANCE plan and we look forward to continuing our role as a strategic partner to semiconductor manufacturing companies in Semicon Techno Park, contributing to the region’s development.”
